TARU - HANDTUFTED RUGS BY BFT
BFT X ECRU DESIGN

We have made our foray into lifestyle products with mirrors, lamps, clocks, and desktop items. Rugs are also one of the categories into which we will be venturing.
The rugs are made from the most loved material - New Zealand wool and Jasmine Silk which makes the rugs extra special. Our rugs are hand-tufted by artisans from traditional backgrounds whose families are still carrying forward the legacy. The material and the techniques lend a soft, natural touch, making it one of the most enjoyable rugs to walk on. The journey of a rug begins much more before a thread, it starts with an idea by the creator and then what material will be suitable for the design. The design of TARU is inspired by living things and organic forms, each rug has its own story, pattern, density, and flow, showcasing the beauty of imperfections of a hand-drawn line by nature. These lines don't start or end anywhere but just continue across the rugs, imprinting their way through a self-renewing process - resulting in an endless continuity.

Design Inspiration:
“A tree is our most intimate contact with nature.”
― George Nakashima

Inspired by living things and organic forms; Taru (meaning tree in Sanskrit) was born with a strong connection to this majestic living form - imitating its rough edges, grooves, and imperfections. Through Taru, spaces change as elements of nature is brought into homes, adding more depth, texture, grandeur, and life. Each rug has its own story, pattern, density, and flow, showcasing the beauty of imperfections of a hand-drawn line by nature. These lines don't start or end anywhere but just continue across the rugs, imprinting their way through a self-renewing process - resulting in an endless continuity.

Process
The handmade rugs made from natural fibers are durable, last longer, and are sustainable. The rugs in this collection are made from high-quality, environmentally friendly materials.

The material and the techniques lend a soft, natural feel to the foot, making it one of the most enjoyable rugs to walk on. These rugs are hand tufted and loop-cut. Using the hand tufted process makes the rugs durable and the loop-cut gives them an interesting texture.

The collection is in 3 designs and colours are chosen so that the rugs either compliment or become the feature of the space. We offer customizations to these designs which can be personalized according to one’s choice.

At Bhadohi, UP, the handmade rugs are woven and tufted with the stories of the generational skill of its artisans, whose families are carrying forward the legacy of handcrafted Rugs. The artisans have watched their fathers weave and tuft and gone on to become gifted craftsmen themselves. Each rug they create is steeped in a 100-year tradition that has not aged.

Cleaning

Clean any spills, including water, immediately by blotting with a clean, dry sponge or cloth to prevent them from getting embedded in the fiber. Do not rub. If you are using any cleaning agent, make sure to remove all traces of it by blotting them out with a fresh dry piece of cloth.

Vacuuming

Periodical vacuuming, using suction or dry extraction, is great for keeping your rugs clean at all times. It removes surface dirt which could get trapped in the fibers, and cause discoloration and staining over time. For vacuuming, use a cleaner without a beater bar, or the one where you can set the bar to the highest pile setting. Do not let the rugs soak up water. Also, do not use steam or hot water to clean. Both can cause the rugs to shrink or be damaged. Do not air rugs in direct sunlight, it can lead to fading of the colours. For a professional cleaning of rugs, take the help of credible rug cleaners/experts.

More details on the materials:

Jasmine Silk

It is one of the finest quality silks with minimum shedding, making it the most sought-after luxury rug. It is luminous, almost sensual appeal belies its exceptional strength, which makes it outlast all other materials. Its lustrous quality comes from the reflective quality of each strand, which also transforms the colors into jewel tones. Silk, however, needs careful maintenance and cleaning.

Wool

It is a traditional pile fiber that is considered the best today. Since time immemorial, man has used sheep’s wool for its softness and warmth. It is also naturally strong, water repellent, and flame retardant. With its rich texture and long unbroken fibers, it offers a wonderful feeling underfoot.

Silk Rayon

It is a versatile fiber offering the refinement of natural fibres like silk, wool, cotton in look and texture. That’s why it is known as artificial silk. It is also equally comfortable. It has excellent colour retention quality, and is highly absorbant. Since it does not insulate heat, a viscose rug stays cool to the touch, making it a great option in summers.
